Earlier this month, I interviewed the beautiful Joanna Forest on the G4 tour bus.
She's a wonderful friend of mine, so we had a good catch up and a good natter about the industry, Friends (the TV show), her amazing story (including her battle with breast cancer age just 21), her charity work, Page 3 (!) and all about what Joanna's day to day life as a professional singer is like. A little more about Joanna...
Joanna shot to fame in 2017 when she became the first independent artist to get straight to Number 1 in the Official Classical Album Charts with a début album. The critically acclaimed record, Stars Are Rising, was made “Album of the Week” in The Sunday Mirror and received exceptional reviews in the music, national and global press. Further number 1's in the iTunes and Amazon Classical Album Charts followed.
Joanna entered the world of classical crossover in 2014 following a successful West End career in both musical and straight theatre. Her first public performance as a crossover artist was in duet with Britain’s Got Talent megastar, Paul Potts, at The Palace Theatre, London.
Since 2015, Joanna has been working in partnership with world renowned orchestrator, conductor and pianist, Robert Emery who acted as her arranger and producer with the City of Prague Philharmonic and Arts Symphonic Orchestras. This collaboration saw the release of Stars Are Rising alongside two singles; brand new fully orchestrated arrangements of Bowie’s Life on Mars? and Slade’s How Does it Feel? Both songs earned extensive radio play with Noddy Holder fully endorsing the latter which was also accompanied by a viral animated video.
Summer 2017 saw Joanna perform to thousands of fans, headlining at Proms concerts across the UK and then a nationwide tour of her own album.
Two high profile further recordings were then made by Joanna and released in Autumn/Winter 2017; The Royal Platinum Love Song, recorded in duet with Daniel Koek to celebrate 70 years of marriage between The Queen and Prince Philip, went straight to Number 1 in the Classical singles chart and culminated in global media coverage.
Following this, Joanna appeared on the Paul McCartney backed “Choirs with Purpose” Stand Together album featuring as one of 10 celebrity singers where, on her track, led a 600 strong choir.
